Lighthouse Preservation: A Case Study in Reality Modeling

Preserving historic structures requires precision — especially when they sit at the intersection of land and water.

In this project, Aqua Survey supported engineers assessing the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse in Hudson, NY by producing a detailed 3D engineering-grade point cloud model. Using a combination of above-water lidar, photogrammetry, and subsurface sonar, our team created a seamless reality model that transitions smoothly from above to below the waterline.

This comprehensive model gave engineers the spatial clarity needed to evaluate the lighthouse’s structural integrity, including submerged elements not easily inspected by traditional means.
