This system can be quickly deployed, is typically not visible from the surface, can be placed in deep enough water to avoid boat damage and can be released to the surface when pinged with a coded acoustic source. Once the SPMD is retrieved, the semi-permeable membrane packet is recovered and can be sent to specialty laboratories for contaminant analyses.
