A sediment vibracoring system is comprised of a vibrator-head (motor/housing/barrel clamp), external core barrel, internal core liner and core-catcher/nose cone analyses. Our vibrator-heads are powered by 240 volt/3 phase or 110 volt single phase electrical sources. Internal core liners are typically flexible (food-grade polyethylene) when collecting cores for contaminant evaluations or rigid (Lexan or other polycarbonates) for geotechnical samples of high-resolution enviornmental cores. The flexible liners can be slit with a razor knife and are easy to process in the field or the lab. standard 4-inch diameter sediment core yields about 0.5 gallons of sediment per foot of recovered core. A vessel-based field crew can typicall collect 8-12 short cores (<8 feet), 6-10 medium cores (8-12 feet) and 4-8 long cores (>12) feet a day depending on conditions. As a rule of thumb, we can collect sediment cores more quickly than our clients can process them. We can deploy 10 vibracoring systems simultaneously.
