Results Prove Contaminants Immobilized or Neutralized: The cost to legally dispose of unaltered contaminated sediments is astronomical. Over the past 20 years, different strategies have been found to be effective to immobilize/neutralize contaminants and to stiffen the final product so it can be worked like soil. The most common amendment added to lightly to moderately contaminated sediments is Portland cement. Aqua Survey routinely collects sediment samples and then performs mixing studies to confirm that the use of cement or other products will significantly immobilize/neutralize or bind known contaminants of concern. Amended sediments are then tested via conventional (SPLP, MED, TCLP) or modified elutriate preparation studies to verify contaminants have been successfully immobilized/neutralized
